Something to Think About
Go... Make a Difference

Let us not become weary in doing
good, for at the proper time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Be A Light

By Pat

Sometimes I wish I could surround myself with all my Christian friends and family and stay away from the rest of the world. It's so nice to be around people with the same beliefs, values and goals that I have; loved ones who speak my language, so to speak. I just feel different when I'm with fellow believers; in church, at my favorite Christian bookstore, in Bible studies.

But as wonderful as that feels to me, I realize that it's not what Jesus wants of us, for if we only walk among Christians, don't we shine our light in a room that's already brightly lit? Our lights, in order to illuminate the darkness, must therefore seek out those dark corners and rooms. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says, "We are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put in under a bowl. Instead they put it on it's stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven".

So that's what we must try to do. It's nice to to shine among the other lights in the room, making it brighter, but it's required to leave the room and find a dark corner in which to shine.

YOB: #16. Try To Meet Someone Famous

By Beth

I am a big fan of food. Perhaps this is why I also hate size two people and avoid them by going to the beach in the winter. The older I get, the more exercise I have to do to burn off the food I eat so I don’t end up weighing three tons. I think eventually I’ll have to accomplish everything on my daily to do list in exercise form. That or stop eating.

Being a fan of food, I watch the Food Network regularly. I was introduced to the show Ace of Cakes years ago while watching reruns. I couldn’t believe that what I was seeing was an actual cake! It was amazing, the people on the show were hilarious and I was hooked. It used to be a regular Tuesday night thing for my mom and me, sometimes the kids too. Now that we have DVR, I can watch it anytime I want. Duff Goldman is funny and amazingly talented. Mary Alice is awesome and Geoff, although quiet, has a dry wit to him that I find so attractive!

Are You Ready?

By Chuck (Sharing Compassion)

Let me ask a question-Are you preparing for what God might want you to do? When the Spirit says, "Go" or "Do" will you be ready? I have found that life is a grand adventure. Doors may close but others always open. God is always working in our lives. He has a master plan and we won't know the final result until our time here on Earth is done. However that does not mean we should rest on our laurels and do nothing.

If you look at Acts 13:1-5 the church at Antioch was worshiping and fasting while waiting on word from the Spirit about which direction they go and who should be sent. They were eager and waiting. How different should that be for us? Do we listen for God's promptings. Are we tuned in to what He would have us do. Often the noise of everyday life crowds out what we should be hearing. Sometimes in our circumstances we think that he might be finished with us but really a finish is just a beginning.

What Did Jesus Do For Us?

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16, NIV)

I remember going to Disney Land in California when I was six years old. I had a blast, until I got lost. I don’t know how it happened, but I still remember the panic and fear of not knowing where my parents were. I freaked out. I don’t even know how long I was lost or how I eventually found my parents again, but I know being lost—even at Disneyland—was terrifying and I never wanted to be lost again.
