I am not a big fan of bugs. I mean, I don't mind them at all when they leave me alone. But that rarely happens. I think they all have a pact amongst themselves that when they see me coming, they all come running, flying, crawling and ...buzzing.
Last week was no different. Tuesday is a busy day for us. Both daughters in school, riding lessons, etc. We usually have a 'picnic in the car' for lunch on the way to the farm after school. I ran out of time to make lunches, so I thought I would be a good Mom and treat my girls to Mc'D's for lunch. We don't eat there very often, so I knew they would be very excited.
So I picked up my youngest from school and we headed to the Golden Arches. Then we headed back to the school to wait for my oldest to get out of class. We sat in the parking lot chatting with another mother. I was eating my hamburger, my youngest was happily munching on her fries and chicken. Then my oldest came out of the building with her class. I'll mention here that it had been about 10 minutes with no bugs (bees!!) in sight.
I was helping my oldest get into her horse riding gear and was about to get back into the car. (At this point I still had about half of my hamburger in my hand.) I closed her door and my daughters started screaming. "Mooom!! There's a bee in the car." I'm like sure...<eyes rolling>. But like a good Mommy, I opened the door back up and looked around, and sure enough there was a (note: one) bee flying around. It was a yellow jacket which are particularly aggressive this time of year, so I wanted to get it out quickly before it started to go after the girls. So I went around and opened the hatch and managed to get the bee out of the car. Closed the hatch, and went to close the other door when... Suddenly, they were everywhere in the car and chasing me! Fortunately (or not) most of the parents had already left the parking lot. So at least I didn't have an audience.
Having half a hamburger in my hand SO did not help. But in the midst of all the running around trying to get the bees out of the car, put the window up in my door, ..and falling out of the car... I managed to toss what was left of my hamburger to the ground. When I finally got my window up and the bees were gone for a second (maybe two), I picked up the half that still had the patty on it that had landed at my feet face up. I didn't stop to look to see where the other half of the bun went since they were still flying all around us and the car. We managed to get away without anyone being stung, but I managed to lose a pretty big chunk of skin off my hand from falling out of the car.
So after that, we were all off to the farm. Laughing hard at what it must have looked like to anyone watching Mommy jumping all around trying to get the bees out of the car and away from her. We were very happy to be driving away from all of the bees that were slamming into the windows of the car trying to get in. We finished all of our activities and headed for home.
We were parked in the garage and after I turned the car off, I opened my door. I was grabbing stuff and getting ready to get out, and that's when I spotted it... the other half of my hamburger bun. It had landed in the door hinge of the car!!! I thought I was going to fall down laughing! And the first thing I thought? This is perfect for a Life is Funny post!!!
Don't even get me started on the ninja mosquitoes we have around here...
