Often we hear that teens don't "get it." They are wrapped up in texting, Facebook/My Space or too into themselves to really care. This past weekend I worked a conference downtown called "Acquire the Fire." This is a teen event to promote Christian growth and development among other things. Many vendors were there and I of course was there helping at the Compassion booth for child sponsorships.
Keep in mind that these are teens without a steady income but they do have a heart. Over 80 children were sponsored by those teens. Many pooled their resources as a group in order to sponsor one child. Many took a leap of faith and decided to give something up in order to sponsor.
The interesting thing that I noted is often adults will visit a table like this several times and ask a lot of questions before making a decision. They have to weigh all the pros & cons. Without fail when these teens came to the table the decision had been made. They may have looked for a certain country or birth dates but they knew what they wanted to do. They understood the urgency and knew they could make a difference. I wish all of us still had that innocence and heart. If we all felt as they did then we really could make a difference for The Kingdom.
