AskKids is a kid safe search engine that allows age appropriate searches of the internet for answers to common (and uncommon) questions.

This site was created by the makers of Ask.com, who decided it was not appropriate to let all answers be shown for any topic asked if children were the ones asking.  So, AskKids was born for kids age 6-12.  Every website result is hand picked for cleanliness.

The main page looks like notebook (including being able to scribble on it with pen, pencil, and highlighter, and stickers).

Top level sections include Schoolhouse, Movies, Games, Video, and Images.

Ask about age inappropriate topics, and you will get… Nothing. A polite robot appears on the screen and says “Beep!  Your search didn’t reveal any topics.” Age filtering is adjustable between kids, pre-teens, and teenager.

Ask about frogs, and you will get an image like a biology lab report index card (complete with paper clip), and a series of articles that would be useful for homework, reports, etc. along with other questions about frogs to help kids look at other topics:

Narrow Your Search
What Do Frogs Eat
Where Do Frogs Live
Frog Life Cycle
Types of Frogs
Frog Facts

All answer pages tend to be in a three-panel display for easy clicking with a mouse, for just the right mix of changing topics or researching just one.
