Being The Best At What You Are

By Pat

During a recent morning devotion, I was instructed to read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. After I read it, I realized with glee that through the years I have indeed done some spiritual growing! I no longer strive to be the "head," nor do I fret when I realize I may always be a toe or a finger. I have stopped trying to be something I am not. I am content to be whatever part of Christ's body God created me to be, and I am not intimidated by or envious of those the world might consider more important in the Kingdom. If God wants me to be a toe, I am going to be the best toe I can be! And if at some point God decides to make me a hand, or a mouth, I will strive to bring Him glory and to be the very best I can. I have learned that in trying to be something I'm not, I can't function properly and do God's work competently. And I thank God for this!

Choose Wisely

By Pat

Have you ever really thought about how your attitude toward God and your faith-walk affect those around you? I used to think my faith was a personal thing, something to hold close to myself and guard fervently. But through the years, as I have grown in my walk with the Lord, I have come to realize that nothing could be further from the truth.

Looking For God...Again!

By Pat

Okay, I admit it. I'm struggling again. Struggling with finances which is forcing me to struggle with decisions, among a few other issues, and therefore struggling with my faith. I know I'm not alone; we all have our moments, our days, even weeks and months, don't we? After all, God never promised a trouble-free life for any of us.

Looking back through the Bible, we recall David, Paul, Peter, just to name a few. Even Jesus! They all had their problems. In fact, thinking about the problems they faced make mine seem kind of, well, petty I suppose. And yet, I still struggle. Am I a fair-weather Christian, relying on everything to go my way in order for my faith to be strong? Why can't I hear God? What am I doing wrong? Where is that window God's supposed to open for me when it appears there is a door fixing to slam shut?

Are You A Happy Person?

By Pat

Are you a happy person? I am, or at least, I think I am. Usually in a fairly good mood, rarely depressed, and quite content with my life in general.

But not long ago, I began thinking about the word "happy." What makes a person happy? Many things can bring the feeling of happiness. I feel happy when I am busy and productive, when I awaken knowing I had a decent night's sleep, when I know my favorite show is on the television that night. I am happy when I cook a good meal, try a new recipe that is a success. My first cup of coffee in the morning makes me very happy, as does a hot bubble bath and a good book. New clothes make me happy, and losing a few pounds makes me happy. Comfortable shoes, too.

Weeding The Flower Beds

By Pat

A few weeks ago, I decided to give my flower beds a much needed and long overdue weeding. I dread it. I hate it. But... I have to do it, so after much procrastinating, I began the task.

As I began working, I said a prayer, and asked the Lord to just let me feel His presence, hear a word from Him. I didn't ask for anything in particular, but just to have a sense of the Holy Spirit as I worked in the flower bed.

The first thing I started with are the weeds I hate the most. I have no idea what kind they are, though I'm sure they have a name, but if you're a gardener you'll know what I mean... they are prickly and they get very big and will, in fact, take over the flower bed if they're not kept up with. You can't pull them out. They have to be dug, for the stickers on the leaves hurt like the dickens.
