What Does It Mean To Be A Christian?

Updated on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 3:14PM by Registered CommenterMAD21

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you should not be like cowering, fearful slaves. You should behave instead like God's very own children, adopted into his family -- calling him "Father, dear Father." For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God's children. (Romans 8:14-16, NLT)

Growing up, my two older brothers and I would fight with each other all the time. My oldest brother would pick on my other brother, who would then turn around and pick on me. We called each other names, hit each other, made fun of each other, played tricks on each other—typical brother stuff. Our parents hated it, of course, but we kept right on fighting with each other. To watch us every day, you’d think we hated each other... until someone from outside our family tried to pick a fight with one of us.

Running For Awareness

By MAD21

Relevant Magazine posted a great article about Aurora Amaya called, "In the long run." Ms. Amaya is a professional photographer who has life struggles just like the rest of us. One night, she decided to do something about it. To help herself and others she created "Running for Awareness." It's a long distance run that will bring awareness to the real struggles that people have.

"From October 17 to November 14, Amaya and a fleet of friends, athletes and celebrities will be running across the state of Texas, from the skyline of Dallas to the shoreline of Galveston, in a month-long move of solidarity to promote the pursuit of emotional wellness and transparency. She says it’s a chance to “take emotional health awareness out of the shadows and put it out in the open, for everyone to talk about." Amaya will be trekking approximately 10 miles a day for 29 days. Unlike other charitable runs, everyone is invited and can run as long or as little as they like, but there are no sign-ups. Instead, participants wear shirts on which they have intentionally labeled their personal struggles, casting them into the light for all to see. That’s the entrance fee: the freedom found in self-disclosure."

What a great idea. Go check out all the information. Maybe it will inspire you and help you get an idea regarding something you can do to help people.

Why Should Christians Care About Economics?

By Jason, M.Ed.. M.A.R., Headmaster

Christians and Economics, Part One

A woman operates a small coffee stand in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of a big city in Bolivia. She sells coffee and earns a regular income to feed and clothe her children and build a decent home for her family. She opened her coffee stand thanks to a $500 loan, a loan which she easily and quickly repaid because it was small and she used it to secure a dependable income. This is the world of microfinance, a movement transforming lives in the developing world.

In a middle class suburb in America, a man charges dinner out with his family. He then goes shopping and buys a new suit for himself, putting another few hundred dollars on his Visa. Soon, he has taken on more personal debt in an evening than the coffee-stand entrepreneur in Bolivia. Yet his debt was not incurred in the pursuit of income to help his family. His was spent on convenience, pleasure and fashion.
