YOB: A Short Break From Adventures

By Beth

I am taking a break this week from the usual telling about a recent Year of the Birthday adventure. I do hope you will forgive me. It's just...well...it's been one of those weeks here in good ol' PA. Work stuff, home stuff and my back hurts so much that I've already had to take a break from this entry. Plus, I just didn't feel the creativity flowing enough to write about a cave. I want to do the story justice and I feel I just can't this week. So, here is something I wrote last week which some of you may have seen on my Facebook page.

Lara called me Wednesday night after hitting a deer on her way home. We talked for a bit, she was concerned it wasn't dead. I hope I made her feel better amidst the police interruptions and confirming that the deer was actually dead. I was very glad to know that she was okay and that the Jeep was not terribly injured.

The thing about inspiration is that it comes on me at such odd times. The following day, Thursday, I found myself with about an hour to kill while sitting at my son's dress rehearsal for a show he's in this Friday. The first verse of a poem floated through my head and I ran with it.

God's Orchestra

By Pat

Do you find it easy to compare yourself with others regularly, allowing others to set the bar for what you think you should be? I sure have, but I have learned that it's a recipe for failure.

God made each of us unique, with our own distinct personalities, strengths, likes, dislikes, and yes...flaws. That's the way it's supposed to be. That's what God intended. We are each a musical instrument in God's orchestra, and God is our maestro. If we are all the same instrument, that would certainly make for a mighty boring band, wouldn't it?

Works For Me Wednesday: Toilet Cleaner?

By MAD21

My friend Helen and I participate in a fun carnival on Monday's called Life Is Funny, hosted by our friend Wendy. This week, Helen posted an interesting idea for cleaning your toilet. It was a funny and useful idea if you ever run out of toilet cleaner when you need it.

Every Wednesday, fellow blogger Kristen at We are THAT Family posts clever ideas for getting things done. She calls it, "Works For Me Wednesday" or WFMW. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

One Word At A Time: Faithfulness

By MAD21

The first thing I think of when I hear the word faithfulness is the old hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness. We don't hear hymns much anymore, and I have to admit, I miss them. Our church tends to sing more contemporary worship music, but sometimes we get to sing some of the older stuff. I think the newer generations are really missing out on the messages some of these older hymns have to say.

A man named Thomas O. Chisolm wrote the words to Great is Thy Faithfulness in 1923. He did it as a way to tell people about how faithful God was all during his lifetime. I don't have the talent that Mr. Chisolm had to express in words my thankfulness to God for his love for me, but listening to the words of this song I feel the same passion.

Being Wise With What's Given To You

By MAD21

"One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty." (Proverbs 11:24)

"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

We are told not only to give and give cheerfully, but we are also told to plan it out.
