Being Still

By MAD21

I have written before about one of my favorite times of the day. I was reminded of this post tonight when tucking my oldest daughter into bed. She's been having a rough time adjusting to being in school everyday, and therefore, not with me. She is a very social child. She loves her friends, her school, and her teachers. But apparently, they don't take the place of Mom. Which I am actually happy about (I know, that might change in about 8-10 years). I'm glad she misses me and is still unhindered and unafraid to express herself to me.

I have to admit, I struggle with the separation a lot myself. Since school started, we've all been insanely busy. Two different school schedules, work schedules, working on this blog, soccer, riding lessons, friend's needs, family needs, baths, shopping, keeping the house from overflowing with toys, dirty clothes, dishes, and dust bunnies... It can be a bit overwhelming at times.

As my daughter and I lay snuggling in bed in the quiet of the night when stories, prayers, and songs were over, I realized yet another lesson that God has taught me through my kids. The importance of being still. In that moment I reminded my little girl how much I loved her and and enjoyed these quiet times with her. She needs that time with me as much as I need it with her.

How often do we make time to be with the One who made us? In the craziness of the day, is there a time when we are just ..still... Time when we can feel close to the one who loves us unconditionally like a parent loves their child. Time when we can reconnect and refocus with the One who is the most important and allow Him to speak to us.

Let me encourage you to do it. Be still. Be quiet. Focus.

...Time. We need it from Him. He wants it from us.

"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

This is such a great song! I'm glad you have those special times with your daughter!
All the reminders I've been receiving lately have been telling me to be still and quiet...hmmm, may be time to actually DO IT!

I am so excite to go home and be still with my children today. It's been a long week, and they've been off every day. I am so excited I get to spend all day with my children tomorrow and that I get to do it after reading this post. Thanks!!!
