Fingerprint Friday: Our Puppy

By MAD21

Several years back, my hubby and I realized our lives were lacking something. This was before we had, or were ready to have, children. We had both had dogs around most of our lives, and we missed having one of our own. Our friends knew we were looking for a lab-mix puppy, so the hunt was on...

We got the call in January of 2003. A friend's cousin's dog had just had puppies on Christmas morning. NINE of them. NINE beautiful Chesapeake Bay Retriever (mom-pure bread)/Lab mix (dad-mutt) black puppies. We were so excited. We drove a few days later to go and see them, and fell in loooove. A few of them already had homes to go to, which helped to narrow down which one we would choose. The really cool thing is that during this process, a friend of ours, plus the family of one of my students decided they wanted one, too. We chose the little girl who was all black except for some white down her chin and neck, and a cool mark on the bottom of her neck/chest that looked like a wishbone. We named her Bailey, after George Bailey from It's a Wonderful Life since she was born on Christmas.

It's hard to believe it's been almost seven years. I have so many stories I could share about how Bailey is such a huge part of our family, fun times, sad times, great times, and how she was the reason I almost never had children of my own (let's just say she was a high-maintenance puppy...she really missed her siblings). Just suffice to say that she is everything a family could ever want in a dog. We love her dearly.

And for those who read my previous article about our new kitten KC, Bailey LOVES her. She was really sad when our previous cat, Oscar, died. She moped around a lot. When we brought KC home, she was instantly ready to play. We had to hold her back for awhile to give KC some time to adjust to her new home and this new huge black dog she was going to be living with. KC now pounces on Bailey, and Bailey chases her down the hall. Our home is complete, yet again. Thanks, God.

Fellow blogger Beki at Pampering You has a really great weekly post she does every Friday called "Fingerprint Friday." We are to look around and see where we can see God's fingerprints. Is it in nature? Kids? Animals? Anywhere? Go find out where Beki saw God this week, and be sure to check out the other bloggers who linked their stories as well.

I think we're starting a trend! One of my closest friends has a dog named Bailey, too! We could start the Bailey network!

She is beautiful. Doggies are so wonderful, always wagging their tails and giving us unconditional love. Ours makes us laugh all the time. Her ears are always sticking up in funny poses ... sometimes she even sleeps with one straight up in the air.

So sweet! My kids want a dog, but we're not ready to cross that bridge...yet. I love our kitties for now, but one day we'll need to fill that 'puppy' hole we all seem to have... :)
