Simplicity in the Church and at Home

Relevant Magazine published an AMAZING article written by Rebecca Ridlington titled, "A Return to Simplicity." It's a great discussion about what people really want and need in a church and in their own lives. This story really made me stop and think about what is important. It makes us ask ourselves, "If all the "stuff" went away, what would we do? Could we enjoy worship in our churches in a way that honors God if we didn't have all the latest gadgets and programs and buildings. Could we live life as a family that can enjoy time with each other without all the latest electronic games and equipment, or SUVs, vacation homes and big houses?

Ms. Ridlington says in her article,"I think we need to shy away from the bright and flashy showman's gospel and get back to the grassroots movement modeled so perfectly in the New Testament... Even in everyday life, there is a seeming urge to buy, to accumulate stuff... I don't necessarily know what the answer to this situation is exactly, although I am inclined to say that we all need a bit of a reality check in terms of what is really important."

Go read it for yourself. Maybe with all the issues going on with the current economy and the hard financial choices we've all been forced to make, it won't seem all that bad.
