YOB: #12. Painting Daisies On A Big Red Rubber Ball

By Lara

Some of you may or may not be familiar with the Veggie Tales. Silly Songs with Larry are some of the most clever children's songs ever written. There are few if any that I don't enjoy. When I first heard, "We Are the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything," I thought it was brilliant.

That was the inspiration for "Go to Boston in the Fall." We decided that we should pay homage to the song by adding something else. Neither Beth nor I particularly wanted to lick a spark plug, sniff a stink bug, or throw our mashed potatoes up against a wall. Instead, we settled on "Paint Daisies on a Big Red Rubber Ball" for the second veggie-themed item on the list.

We purchased our big red rubber balls at Ocean City. They were perfect.

The weekend after the ocean, I drove to Beth's house. Beth had already purchased some white and yellow paint. We were ready.

Both of Beth's kids were eager to help us. Several of Beth's cats were also involved. Vincent knocked the balls out of their bowls at least once.

Beth chose to make all of her daisies look the same. I took the opposite approach. Each of my daisies are different. There are several that I don't really like. Still. I had a good time painting. It was relaxing.

Kara took several pictures of me with my big red rubber ball. She kept telling me to look like I was doing something. In most of the pictures, I do, in fact, look like I'm doing something.

Beth completely covered her big red rubber ball with daisies. They were very tidy and evenly spaced. I covered about a third of the surface area of my ball with daisies of various shapes, sized and consistencies. It looks chaotic.

We put them in the bathroom to dry, so they would be less tempting to the kitties. It was a silly item on the list, but we had a lot of fun with it.

EPILOGUE: Beth's big red rubber ball is currently waiting for some touch-up work. Beth's brother sat on the ball and smushed some of the daisies. He claims that he thought it was a legitimate seat. We are skeptical regarding the truthfulness of this claim.

I left my big red rubber ball unguarded in my reading room. Several days later, it was deflated and had two puncture marks in it about an inch apart. It either fell victim to the feline menace that walks among us or I have miniature vampires. I should probably look into that. I was hoping to use it for four-square in the parking lot.
