A Slight Glitch

By Lara

I had planned last week to write this week's article on "Meeting Someone Famous - Lara's Perspective." That was, after all, the next adventure in chronological order. However, the Year of the Birthday has hit a bit of a glitch.

Several weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a kidney stone or several. I was in a lot of pain and vomiting. My illness caused me to miss more work than I would have liked and several planned Year of the Birthday adventures. I was devastated. No one likes being sick or in pain, but I also hate it when I let people down.

Last Wednesday, the pain was so severe that I went to the emergency room. They gave me a CT scan and found a rather large kidney stone is stuck. Saturday I was back in the emergency room. This time, with a broken leg. (That also has something to do with this article being submitted late...)

I spent many sad hours worrying about the extent of my leg injury as well as my stubborn kidney stone. If either of these items require surgery, my recovery time might be extensive. I don't know how many items left on the Year of the Birthday list are going to be attainable before December 31.

In a rather depressed and anxious state, I sent Beth a message last night apologizing for ruining our Year of the Birthday. Beth is one of my closest friends, and I was feeling terrible for disappointing her.

Beth wrote back, "Don't worry about the Year of the Birthday. We're having so much fun that next year might be a letdown! It would be nice to extend it."

That made me think about all the blessings in my life. We didn't come up with the Year of the Birthday list just to check items off of a list. We came up with the idea in order to make sure that our friendship stays a priority. To take some time out of our routines and do something special. To make memories.

Our friendship should continue to be important to us for the rest of our lives. I'm looking forward to all of the adventures we have yet to accomplish. Both the items on the list, and the items we'll think up along the way. Here's to friendship and letting people know how much you love them!

Well, you know Lara, if you didn't want to turn in your article you could have just said you were busy!! You didn't have to go this far.

We love you! And are praying for a fast recovery from all of this.

Due to popular demand, the year of the birthday has been extended. Does this mean we'll have to re-submit all the letterbox paperwork? Or will we still pick it up Dec. 31?
I don't care if it takes us 30 years to do this stuff, as long as we do it together! Well, maybe we should get it done before we turn 40! We'll need to make THAT list with less involved things on it!! Item #1: go to a movie and eat pretzels, Item #2: send each other a text a day for one week, Item #3: go to Buffalo Wild Wings...

Instead of "The Year of the Birthday," we can call it "A Lifetime of Small Adventures..." Well. In any event, we have time to think of a cooler title.

Or, "The Year of the Birthday That Didn't End" :)

This is the birthday that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend, some people started celebrating it not knowing what it was, and they'll continue celebrating it forever just because, this is the birthday that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend...

Hee hee. I wondered if either of you would catch that :o)
