Who Is God?

By Ginny (MAD21)

I've shared with you all before that one of my favorite times of day is bedtime. Not because it's when the house finally goes quiet, but because it's one of the few times in the day when I have some good, quality time with my girls without distraction. This is when we talk about our day, good times and bad, tell silly stories or ask serious questions.

During one particular conversation about a month ago, my oldest was asking me some questions about God and what I thought about him. At one point she actually asked me, "Who is God?" Leave it to our kids to ask us questions that can take a lifetime to answer. Since she is only almost seven (I have to say that -so she says- because she'll be seven in a few weeks), I could keep the answer a little simpler than if an adult were asking me, but it really got me thinking. For one thing, she won't be seven forever and she has a little sister who is growing up right behind her who rarely accepts short answers even at almost four and a half (that half is important to her, too).

This question laid heavily on my mind for quite some time. And like a true blogger I eventually realized that this would make a really good blog series. And since it's always nice to invite your friends into the conversation, I asked several friends to write for the series:

Jay Cookingham (Twitter: @strategicdad Website: Soulfari)

Jason Stasyszen (Twitter: @br8kthru Website: Connecting to Impact)

Dusty Rayburn (Twitter: @dlrayburn Website: Reflections on the Life of a Christian)

Jason V (he blogs for me here at Make A Difference To One)

Nick Croft (Twitter: @Nick_thegeek Website: My Experience As...)

There will be at least 20 posts in the series covering topics such as: (God is...) Spirit; Eternal; Unchangeable; Approachable; Holiness; Almighty; All-Knowing; Justice; and Personable. Each of the posts will help guide us to a better understanding of that particular topic, and help equip those of you who have children in your lives talk about the God who loves them more than anything.

To get us started I wanted to share this powerful video clip with you. If you want to know who God really is, this is a great place to start. It will light a raging fire in your heart.

That's My King by Dr. S.M. Lockridge

I hope you and your families learn as much as we will during this series. I pray that your relationship with each other and with God grows stronger and more passionate. I believe it's important to understand and truly know who God is at a deep level, not just for us as an individual, but for our children. Teaching them through our words and actions who God is will impact generations.

"Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay,
you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand."
(Isaiah 64:8)

To me, who He is was summed up perfectly by HIs only begotten Son: Father.
