Life Is Funny: Fireworks

By MAD21

Our family had an awesome 4th of July. It's one of my kids most favorite holidays. Who can blame them? Good food, family, friends, a parade AND fireworks all in the same day.

We had gotten a great spot to watch the local fireworks that evening. This year was particularly good as many of the neighbors around the area had acquired some pretty cool (albeit illegal) fireworks. We literally had nearly a 360 degree view of fireworks. It was awesome.

At some point in the evening, my oldest asked about why there were so many fireworks going off around us. We just explained which ones were the ones we actually came to see (the town sponsored fireworks), and that the others were from people who were probably having parties and had purchased some for them to enjoy.

When the majority of the large fireworks were done, we collected all of our stuff and started heading back for the car. Some other fireworks started going off in the sky and our youngest got excited yelling, "Look sister! More fireworks!" To which my oldest responded, "That's not for us, that's for the neighborhoods."

Apparently, we were not supposed to watch and enjoy them because they weren't meant for us. It was really funny. They were happy to know that it was ok for us to stop and watch them before we left.

My friend and fellow blogger Wendy at Weight..What? has a fun carnival at her blog called "Life is Funny." Every Monday we talk about something in life that we find funny. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

YOB: #10. See Some Ridiculously Exciting Fireworks (Part 2)

By Lara

Oh Yes. Ridiculously exciting fireworks, Lara style.

I know that Beth already described the fireworks in great detail, but now it's time for my take on the whole sordid incident. It felt slightly cliche for our "ridiculously exciting fireworks" to occur on the 4th of July, but we were running low on funds. The great thing about Independence Day fireworks displays is that they are usually free.

Beth had described the traditional Ambler fireworks display to me several times. It didn't sound like Disney World quality, but Beth promised that it was cooler than the average small town affair. I was skeptical regarding "ridiculously exciting," but continued to keep an open mind.

YOB: #10. See Some Ridiculously Exciting Fireworks

By Beth

When I look at the Year of the Birthday list, it is easy to see where some of the ideas came from. Some came from our own individual lists of things we'd always wanted to do; some are on there simply because they'd make a good story, some ideas sprouted other ideas and some are from Veggie Tales songs. For the life of me, I cannot remember where "see some ridiculously exciting fireworks" came from. So, unfortunately, I have no amusing back-story to go along with this article. Many apologies, I will try to include a witty history in my next submission.

That being said, it is important to note that the specific item is: see some RIDICULOUSLY EXCITING fireworks. No simple, run-of-the-mill display would do It had to be enormous and loud and of course, ridiculously exciting! It has apparently been a while since Lara has seen a decent fireworks display and when we were discussing where we would go to see these ridiculously exciting fireworks, she said that ANYTHING would be better than what she normally sees.
