By Kevin (Shooting the Breeze)

This Tuesday, the Olympic torch will make an appearance in Port Hardy, BC as it makes its way to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics on February 12th.  The torch began its 106 day journey on October 30th, 2009 from Victoria, BC.  I happened to be there that day!  Here is a short video of some of the pictures that I took:

Life Is Funny: Bring Your Doll!

By MAD21

One of my best friends and her husband, lovingly known as Aunt K and Uncle C by my daughters, came by for a visit last week for my oldest's birthday. While Uncle C may look like the tall, strong retired police officer that he is, to my girls, he is just another kid. While Aunt K and I were visiting, Uncle C was on the floor playing with Barbies, Littlest Pet Shop and PollyPocket dolls, voices and all. (Which alone would be funny enough to recall for this post, but I'll leave that to your imagination for now.)

Life Is Funny: Something In Between

By MAD21

As a stay-at-home-mom of young children, I see (or hear) a lot of cartoons and children's shows. Not that there is a whole lot to watch on TV anyway. We have a few shows that we TIVO and watch after our girls have gone to bed, but for the most part, I don't watch much TV.

We had some down time this afternoon after a busy morning/early afternoon. We had sent the girls into rest-time.

Life Is Funny: I Thought It Was Funny

By MAD21

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. At least in my house. You've heard me talk about how my two young daughters are already good at shooting one-liners at us from movies or TV shows with appropriate and hilariously funny timing.

Last week my youngest and I were on our way to pick up her older sister from school. She had said something that made me laugh, and then as most little ones do, kept repeating the same thing a few more times hoping to get the same response from me. After the third or so time, I said, "Ok, it's not funny anymore. You'll have to think of something else."

YOB: #13. Go Gambling in Atlantic City

By Beth

When I was 16 my Great Aunt Nancy got married in Las Vegas in one of those little wedding chapels that are so prominent out there. Before you ask, no, she was not married by Elvis, it was not a drive through chapel and the only theme was "wedding." It was a second marriage so they wanted to skip the fuss of a big church wedding and they actually lived in Vegas. My mother and I flew out for the wedding and stayed for a few days. I remember being very impressed, not only with the shortness of the ceremony (it was maybe 15 minutes, and the recessional was "Tea For Two;" there was another bride waiting outside when we came out, too) but with all the sights Vegas has to offer. It really is a beautiful city and it is still on my own personal list to go back and see again. Somewhere in a shoebox I have pictures of all the dazzling casinos, hotels, resorts and theaters out there. I also have a picture of my grandfather getting ready to pull the lever on the slot machines in the airport. It's one of my favorite poses of him.
