Tasty Bites: Leftovers and Breakfast For Dinner - Frittata!

By Candy, RN (Steele the Day)

Have you ever had a little of this and a little of that in your fridge and didn’t know what to do with it? There’s not enough to actually serve at a meal, yet you just don’t want to throw smidgens of food away. Here’s your solution: a frittata! It’s one of my favorite meals to make quickly from whatever leftovers you have.

Eggs are inexpensive and we usually have them on hand. When you use only half the yolk, it makes the dish lower in cholesterol and saturated fat. Eggs are a good source of riboflavin, Vitamin B12 and phosphorus, and a very good source of protein and selenium.

Here are some substitutions I’ve used in frittatas, so don’t limit yourself to the ingredients in the recipe below!

Are You A Happy Person?

By Pat

Are you a happy person? I am, or at least, I think I am. Usually in a fairly good mood, rarely depressed, and quite content with my life in general.

But not long ago, I began thinking about the word "happy." What makes a person happy? Many things can bring the feeling of happiness. I feel happy when I am busy and productive, when I awaken knowing I had a decent night's sleep, when I know my favorite show is on the television that night. I am happy when I cook a good meal, try a new recipe that is a success. My first cup of coffee in the morning makes me very happy, as does a hot bubble bath and a good book. New clothes make me happy, and losing a few pounds makes me happy. Comfortable shoes, too.

YOB: #28. Have A Progressive Dinner (Part 2)

By Beth

I have fond memories of youth group events as a middle and high school student. Scavenger hunts, Dorney Park, overnight camps and missions trips and, of course, progressive dinners. These were some of my favorites because I'm a naturally nosy person and on a progressive dinner you get to see the inside of several people's homes. If it was the home of a boy I liked it was even better. My youth group had a few progressive dinners over the years I went there and I attended them all. So many good memories! Lara had similar memories from her youth so we added a progressive dinner to our list. We must have been delusional.

It's a Laser!

By Alan

We all remember the fun scene from Toy Story about Buzz Lightyear bragging about his laser on his arm.

The word laser originally was the upper-case LASER, the acronym from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. However, it’s a bit misleading, because it’s not just “light” that could come out, but nearly any kind of electromagnetic radiation. The “original” lasers were actually putting out microwaves.

Lasers can be very bright, they can be dim. They could be a single color (more singular than any other kind of light), and some lasers can be broad spectrum light (an interesting prospect).

We forget that lasers can do all kinds of things besides point forward and light something up.

It’s interesting that several brand new cool methods of using lasers have showed up in the news recently.

Works For Me Wednesday: Wallpaper Woes

By MAD21

Last week, the host of this carnival, Kristen, had a themed week where we were to ask our readers about something that "Works for Them." I had an insane week, and didn't have time to write my post then, so I'm doing it this week.

To say I am not a big fan of wallpaper is an understatement. But when we bought our house almost ten years ago, it was full of it. The previous owners had good friends who were professional decorators, who were apparently not people who had issues with wallpaper. But it was all very well done and it looked beautiful... save for one room.
