Facebook Ministry (Part 1) - The Beginnings

By Chuck (Sharing Compassion)

Social networking is a fairly new phenomena in the scheme of things. First there was instant messaging, then MySpace, then Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Two years ago I could not have begun to explain these things to anyone but now I am an avid Facebook person and Twitterer. (Ok not to the extent that some of you are but still active). I even have my own blogs.

Interestingly enough my love of these sites was not from being a computer person but rather from my love of Compassion and wanting to share my ministry. In 2005 I began exploring the use of forums as part of my playing online Disney games but that is another story. I think in late 2008 I thought it would be cool to have a Facebook account. I am not really sure when I activated my account or what I really originally did with it. I certainly did not spend a lot of time with it.

Life Is Funny: Mother's Day 2010

By MAD21

I hope all the mom's who read our blog had a great day yesterday. It was a beautiful day on my side of the world. I started my day running a Mother's Day 5k fun run with friends before going to church with my family.

I got some terrific home-made cards and pictures from my girls, but since I've already shared how wonderful their drawings can be, I thought I would share the funniest store-bought cards I got. Aside from my youngest wishing me a "Happy Valentine's Day" all weekend, they really made me laugh.

Tasty Bites: Cajun Shrimp with Black Bean and Corn Salsa

By Candy, RN (Steele the Day)

Hot and spicy foods are the best! I love to make my own Cajun spice mix because I like the flavors of leaf herbs rather than the ground ones you frequently find in the Cajun spice mix at the store. I love Emeril’s recipe and always keep it in a jar by the stove. You can use it on chicken, fish, seafood, and tofu for a real spicy kick.

This recipe is fresh, light, and a perfect quick dinner. Shrimp is high in cholesterol but low in saturated fat. It is also a good source of niacin, vitamin B12, iron, phosphorus and copper, and a very good source of protein, vitamin D and selenium. I usually buy it in bulk at the “stores with cement floors” as it’s much less expensive than in a regular grocery store.

Fingerprint Friday: Joy of Swinging

By MAD21

Go to any playground and you will likely find swings. Just about every kid I know loves to swing. My daughters looooooove to swing. They like everything else on the playground, too, but it's always the first and last thing we do when we go.

My daughter came home with a memorization assignment this week. It fit well with this post, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Weeding The Flower Beds

By Pat

A few weeks ago, I decided to give my flower beds a much needed and long overdue weeding. I dread it. I hate it. But... I have to do it, so after much procrastinating, I began the task.

As I began working, I said a prayer, and asked the Lord to just let me feel His presence, hear a word from Him. I didn't ask for anything in particular, but just to have a sense of the Holy Spirit as I worked in the flower bed.

The first thing I started with are the weeds I hate the most. I have no idea what kind they are, though I'm sure they have a name, but if you're a gardener you'll know what I mean... they are prickly and they get very big and will, in fact, take over the flower bed if they're not kept up with. You can't pull them out. They have to be dug, for the stickers on the leaves hurt like the dickens.
