Works For Me Wednesday: Make Time For What Is Important
By MAD21
I've always had the philosophy that if something is important, you will make time for it. And while I still very much believe that, I'm finding it harder to live by as I get older with two young kids and our lives getting busier and busier.
Two things that are important to me are my health (running, eating right), and my time alone with God. Unfortunately for some reason these things seem to always be put off. The only thing that has worked to keep these things part of my daily life is to get up early and do them first.
People who know me know that I am not a morning person by choice. I was graced with a household of people and pets who are morning creatures. I prefer to stay up late and sleep in. Something that I haven't been able to do since at least having kids, if not since getting married.
For two years, I got up an hour before anyone (about 6:00am) and went out for a morning run and some time alone with God. It really set the tone for the entire day. It was wonderful. Then, last summer when I first hurt my knee and then my hip (I hate this part of getting old), I had to put off running for a few months. It's been difficult getting back into that morning routine now that things have healed for the most part. But I'm doing it. And I can again tell the difference in my days.
I think it's so crucial that we take time to evaluate what is important in our lives and make sure that we are putting time in our schedules to do them. Even if it means sacrificing a few hours of blissful morning sleep.
Every Wednesday, fellow blogger Kristen at We are THAT Family posts clever ideas for getting things done. She calls it, "Works For Me Wednesday" or WFMW. Kristen is in Kenya this week so her friend Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer is hosting the carnival while she is gone. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.
If you want to see what Kristen is up to in Kenya, please go read her story on her blog, We are THAT Family.
