Fingerprint Fridays: Sisters

My youngest got out of school a few weeks before her sister. Preschool has a shorter school year than Kindergarten. It was good to have some time alone with her. Not that we don't have enough time together, she only went to school two mornings a week, but still, it was a much more relaxed few weeks.

Our favorite library has a little playground behind it with a path to an awesome pond. We have played on the playground a few times, but had never walked the path all the way to the pond. So one day while we were waiting to go pick her sister, my youngest and I decided to go and investigate. It was so beautiful. The lilly pads were everywhere and were in full bloom. While we were enjoying the view and listening to the frogs talking to each other, I looked down in the water at what I thought was a rock... until it moved.

I couldn't believe it. I grabbed my youngest and picked her up to see a full grown snapping turtle. He was HUGE. It was SO COOL! I've seen smaller ones over the years, but this one was big (easily a 20" shell) and just a wonderful treasure to find. She was so excited, and being the loving sister that she is, wanted to know when we could bring her sister so she could see it, too.

A few days after my oldest was out of school, it was time to take another trip to the library. There was a ton of excitement in the air. We got some new books, the girls played for a few minutes on the playground, and then we were off to the pond. My youngest spent the whole walk talking to her sister about the snapping turtle she is has now affectionately named, Snappy. But once we got there, we were disappointed that Snappy was nowhere to be seen. But the disappointment didn't last long, once we started looking around a bit, we realized there were little turtles all over the place. The girls had a great time.

We may not have seen Snappy that day, but they still talked about the hope they had to see him on our next visit. The best part, at least for me, was watching the girls being so happy together. Excited to share life and loving the experience. I pray it continues. It brings me great joy to see them sharing the fingerprints of God with each other.
