A Whole New Life

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

So, you’re back from camp. What a week! You had tons of fun, did things you probably never thought you’d get to do this summer, made some new friends, and got to know God better than ever before.

Now what? You’re back from camp and it’s time for your regular, old life to start again, right? Wrong! Not after everything you’ve learned this summer. Not after what God has been doing in your life. Your same old, stale, crusty life is gone, and you have a whole brand-spankin’, shiny new life with Jesus waiting for you.

What does this mean for you? Well, sit back and get ready, because we’re going to spend some time taking a look at exactly what your new life holds for you. Ready? Let’s get started . . .

Boasting In God's Blessing

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

David’s Final Sin and Our Self-Centered Hearts

At the end of his reign, David enjoyed great victory over all of his earthly enemies. He has subdued the nations around Israel. He and his mighty men had defeated the giants in the land. The land enjoyed rest from warfare and prosperity under God’s hand. Then, David decided to take a census.

At first glance, this doesn’t seem all that bad. After all, Moses had taken two very similar censuses in the Book of Numbers, a counting of all of the fighting men aged 20 and older in the camp of Israel. Yet Moses’ census-taking was ordered by God for divine purposes. David’s came from his own heart and mind and not from the Lord. But just because God didn’t specifically command the census wouldn’t make it sinful, would it?

Grumbling At God's Blessings

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

Can you imagine what it must have been like to be fed miraculously by God? Every day, the Israelites awoke in the desert wilderness to divine provisions- manna from heaven. It must have been amazing to be so obviously guided by God through the pillar of cloud and fire and then provided for by God through daily manna – exactly what was needed each day. It must’ve been amazing, right?

Sadly, it seems to have been boring and unappreciated by the Israelites. Numbers 11 shows the people of God complaining about God’s blessing and longing for slavery. “Oh that we had meat to eat!” they said. “We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing.” (vv. 4-5) Cost nothing, really? Is being enslaved really “nothing”?

Why Should I Pray?

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster

As Christians, we are told to pray without ceasing (I Thess. 5:17). But many of us still may struggle with understanding the purpose of prayer. Why should we pray? Does it really change God’s mind or plans?

We should pray because God asks us to pray. Think about the wonder of that statement. The God who created time and space invites us to pour out our hearts before Him. He invites us to share our burdens and longings with Him.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7, NIV)

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” (Psalm 55:22, NIV)

We should pray because God listens to our prayers. God has promised to hear us when we pray to Him. He is never too busy to hear His children.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (I John 5:14, NIV)

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17, NIV)

Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. (Psalm 55:17, NIV)
