Life Is Funny: Hot Air Balloons

By MAD21

We take our dog, Bailey, with us on most road trips. Whether it's just a short trip to the store or to pick up the girls from school, or an all day adventure, she loves to jump into the back of the jeep and dangle her head out the window. She is definitely a dog who loves to be with her family no matter where we go.

During the warmer months, we have hot air balloons that fly over our house quite often. This was not a problem until one particular afternoon about two years ago, one of those said balloons was flying lower than normal and set off their burner. I had no idea how loud those things were up close! Well, unfortunately, Bailey was outside when it happened. Let's just say I thought she was going to come straight through the glass sliding door trying to get inside.

Life Is Funny: Innocent Words

By MAD21

My daughters were in a wedding this summer. Needless to say they were beautiful, and thankfully, they did everything they were supposed to do during the ceremony.

The plan was that when the bride and groom were pronounced 'Man and Wife,' and started back down the isle to leave the sanctuary, that my girls were to follow right behind them before the rest of the wedding party.

My girls started walking, and just when we thought we could breath (because everything had gone just as we had hoped)... my youngest stopped at the front row where we were sitting with the bride's parents. She leaned in and said quite happily (and loud), "Uncle Chris, I'm married now!!"

Just when you didn't think they could get any cuter...

Life Is Funny: You Know You're In New York City When...

By MAD21

Favorite funny things we heard and saw on our weekend in NYC

1.  “Arms up.” We were all in our hotel room, some were talking, some were watching TV. In mid-sentence we hear my hubby say, “Arms up!” So a few of us put our arms up and were like, what? My hubby was just referring to something he saw on the TV. Don’t we follow directions well? Or maybe it’s just because we were in NYC.

2.  “I don’t appreciate getting dinged at.” There were probably 1000 rickshaws pulling people in the city. We had more issues with them almost running us over than the NYC taxi cabs!

3.  Boxing squirrels. When walking through Central Park, we had stopped at one point to look at squirrel sitting on a rock. Someone jokingly said, “Uh, we have squirrels at home.” Just then, another squirrel came up around the other side of the rock and started pounding on the other squirrel. It looked like they were boxing. Which leads us to…

Life Is Funny: It's Raining Where?

By MAD21

We've had a lot of rain this last month. My kids enjoy those days because it means we get to put a tent up in the living room and watch movies. It also means that there will be lots of puddles. They enjoy us driving through them as much as stomping in them.

Last weekend it had been raining pretty hard all night on Saturday, so the puddles were everywhere. This made walking into church on Sunday morning a challenge as the girls tried not to get their feet wet in their 'fancy church shoes.'

On our way back to the car after church was over, we were walking back to our car when I hear this:

Youngest daughter: "Daddy?"

Daddy: "Yeees?"

Life is Funny: But I Caaaan't...

By MAD21

For this week's Life is Funny, I want to share a conversation my hubby had with our youngest, who is three and a half.

Our daughter is going through a crying phase in her life. You know, where she cries about everything. We have gotten to the point where when she does this at night, we tell her to calm down or we will close her door. This last week, there was an evening when Daddy had to close the door. Immediately following came the screaming, crying, and knashing of teeth one would expect. But eventually she calmed down and asked Daddy to open her door... but she was still pretty disrespectful about it. So here is the conversation that followed:

[Daddy] I said, "You have to ask nicely."
[Daughter] She said, "I can't"
I said, "You have to say, "please.""
She said, "But my voice doesn't work.  It won't say it."
I said, "You can't say what?"
She said, "My voice won't say it. I can't say please."
I said, "But you just said the word."
<looooong pause>
She said, "But I caaaaan't."

You just gotta love this phase when arms, legs, and voices won't work when they are asked to do something they don't want to do.
