Parenting Teens

By Roger

Parenting teens start way before the age of 13. You have to start when they are of elementary school age. That's the time you should gey your children invovled in certain activities. For my wife and I it was dance class, brownies, and baton twirling for our daughter and scouts, bowling, and martial arts for our boys. Not only should you sign your children up for these activities, you should try to be a part of those activities even if you are just there to cheer them on. I became an assistant scout master, while my boys were in scouts and always cheered them on in the other activities. My wife became involved in the baton group my daughter was in and now my daughter is teaching baton twirling to girls who are the same age as when she started.

Sheltering And Shepherding Your Children

By Jason, M.Ed., M.A.R., Headmaster & Parent

Which of the following is wrong for parents to do?

  1. Feeding their children.
  2. Clothing their children.

If you listen to some people in our culture, including a majority of Christians, #3 is a capital offense. “How can you shelter your children?” they ask with shocked expressions on their faces. Why don’t they ever accuse people of daring to try to feed and clothe their children?

Interesting Afternoon In The Life Of A Parent

By Beth

I drove home from work today like usual, stopped at WalMart to pick up a few things and took my normal route home. On my way, I noticed traffic was very heavy and stopped ahead. I really didn't feel like waiting so I took the "back way" home. Before I could turn off, however, I noticed several police cars heading to the intersection (where the blinking yellow light is) and that there were hastily arranged road blocks and ROAD CLOSED signs up. Hmmm..

Thinking About the 'D' Word? Think About This...

The webzine Momlogic posted an article titled, "Why Divorce Isn't Always the Answer." I was personally so happy to see someone finally writing about working to save your marriage instead of reasons it's ok to divorce, or why you should divorce. In the article, they list what they called, "the "Four Horsemen." They describe the negative things we do to each other that will destroy our relationship. Bringing to light things we need to be careful to avoid.

Leaving It At The Door

By MAD21

A friend of mine was telling me today about how his wife was complaining about how much he talked about work (and for the record, he agreed it needed to stop). You know know what I mean. All the conversations we have when we get home from work. Like needing to unload all of the day's events out of our brains before we explode. We spend all day trying to be politically correct and professional while working around other people (or not), that when we are in the safety of our own home with the people we love, we just let it all out like taking the knot out of a balloon.

Mind you, it's not all bad that we share our day's events with our families. I, for one, like very much to hear about the events of each family member's day. But like everything in life, there is such thing as too much of a good thing. We all need to be careful that it doesn't go too far.
