Something to Think About
Go... Make a Difference

Let us not become weary in doing
good, for at the proper time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up.

No One Is Good, Not Even One

By Kelly (Living is Simple)

In my Senior Sem class at EMU, we read Henri Nouwen's "Turn My Mouring Into Dancing." Nouwen, in the book, says,

"Many things we think we do for others are in fact the expressions of our drive to discover our identity in the praise of others."

We were asked to respond, then, to these questions:

How has this been true or untrue in your life?

How does Christian culture and drive to service affect this?

I will freely admit that I often thread the praise or lack thereof into the tapestry of my identity. Who does not enjoy a word that builds confidence in what the body or mind can accomplish? Who does not fall into doubt when praise is few and far between? We crave affirmation in what we can do.

Fingerprint Friday: Lessons Learned

By MAD21

My oldest gave in to temptation this week. There was a situation at school where she saw something she wanted and in her sweet six-year-old mind thought she could lie her way into obtaining it, innocently of course. What started out as a lie of omission, turned into a lie of deception, that turned into a full-on denial of the truth.

A pink-slip followed, along with discussions, notes of apology, 20 "I will not lie" written, reasons given as to why lying of any kind is wrong, and Friday afternoon movies cancelled.

Tasty Bites: Enter The Green Monster

By Candy (Steele the Day)

Yesterday I sent what I thought was a helpful link to an article to my youngest son who works out very hard nearly every day. It contained a recipe for a good post-workout refueling shake full of nutritional goodies written by Matt at No Meat Athlete.. My son’s response?

“I’ve never heard of most of that stuff.”

OK, so I went overboard with a recipe containing selba, sprouted buckwheat, chlorella or spirulena powder. I just love Matt’s site and the article gave some great advice, but in all practicality, it was time to apply the KISS principle if I was to convince someone to not eat fries and a soda after a workout.  So I told him to make a Green Monster.

YOB: #23. Have High Tea With Scones

By Beth

I've never been a big fan of hot drinks. The only kinds I'll tolerate are hot cider (in the dead of winter) and hot chocolate (from December-February, unless an unseasonal bout of frigid weather hits us). Coffee is the most disgusting drink ever created and it should be outlawed. I blame my father for why I don't like coffee. When I was growing up, he would regularly have me make his coffee for him. He took it black. One afternoon, I was around the age of 12, I got the bright idea to taste a little of dad's coffee. I nearly threw up. Coffee with cream and sugar is gross; coffee taken black is like pureed orc hair with a touch of goblin blood. I haven't touched the stuff since.

Life's Highway

By Pat

When you travel life's highway, what kind of driver are you?

Do you curse when someone cuts in front of you? Remember-we all need leaders, so don't be afraid to take a step back and allow someone else to go ahead of you.

Does it frustrate you to get behind a slow-moving vehicle? Perhaps you should welcome the opportunity to slow down a bit and not fly through life at such a breakneck speed, forgetting to enjoy the scenery God has placed in your path.
