Fingerprint Friday: Mechanics and Plumbers, Oh My!

By MAD21

I had to have my car worked on again this week. At least this time we knew what was wrong...and how much it would cost to fix ($120-could be much worse!). We knew because summer before last, it did the same thing. Which brings me to the fingerprint I'm reminded of every time we have problems with our cars.

If you are an adult with responsibilities, there are a few people that are really important to have in your life. A good plumber (your the best John P at Custom Mechanical Services), and a good auto mechanic. I have to say without doubt, we have one of the best mechanics (Bob at Faby's). Not only does he do an awesome job taking care of our cars at amazing prices, he is a guy with great honor and respect for his customers.

What Do Your Children See?

By Bridget (One Word at a Time)

"Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." (Proverbs 17:6)

I often think about what kind of example I’m setting for my children.  Do they see a follower of Jesus, a devoted wife, a loving mother?  Do they feel secure that they live in a home where their parents love and respect one another and will always be there for them?

I take the role God gave me as a parent extremely seriously… but I’m human and I constantly fall short of the example He set for us to follow.  I’m far from perfect, but instead of spending a bunch of time kicking myself for the ‘I should have’s” and the “if only’s”… I need to focus on the things I can change.

Always Connected to Everything, Everywhere

By Alan

I loved this illustration of storage of data as it has developed over the years. We older folks forget how much data we now store quite easily with billions of characters of storage in something smaller than a piece of gum that we carry in our pocket, and ready access to music or data through universally available wireless connections. The current Black Friday deals have hard drives around $100 that can store almost 48,000 hours (2TB drives). If you want to save 5 years worth of music, you can store it cheaply and quickly.

In the same way that anyone under 40 doesn't remember a time when you couldn't call overseas on the telephone, and everyone in a small town knew the telephone operators by name, consider that the kids born today will have no recollection of what it meant to have the phone ring with no answer, either human or robotic. It's difficult to buy a phone without an answering machine in it or a phone number without the capacity for an answering service.

Hot Or Cold ~ Your Choice!

By Chuck (Sharing Compassion)

"So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:16, NIV)

This verse in the Bible pretty well lays it out as to how God feels about our actions. Think about it. God is pretty much saying that he would rather us be cold or hot toward him but not neutral. Being "on the fence" is repulsive to Him and he spits us out as if we were something untasty. I don't know about you but that graphic picture really makes me stop and think.

I know I am not "cold." I am a Christian and proud of it. Those that are cold probably do not even realize they are that way. They don't believe and really don't care about God. Even if they are believers they are too caught up in the world to make a difference. They go about their lives without thinking of the eternal consequences. On a lighter note we know that they certainly won't be cold in eternity. (I just had to throw that in).

Works For Me Wednesday: Gingerbread Houses

By MAD21

Like most people, we have many traditions in our house during the holidays. I think traditions are important. They not only provide opportunities to build the bonds of family, but they are also wonderful memories over the years.

One tradition we have is to build gingerbread houses. Not just for us, but to give away as gifts to grandparents and close friends. They are easy to make, the kids LOVE making them, and the people we give them to look forward to receiving them each year.

For each house, you will need:
