Tasty Bites: Baked Honey Sesame Tofu

By Candy, RN (Steele the Day)

You had to know it was coming. Look through my Twitpics, and you won’t find much meat. I have nothing against meat, other than I feel like I was mostly made to be an herbivore. I like to get a good portion of my proteins from plant sources such as beans, nuts and whole grains. And tofu. Yes, I’m one of those people.

Tofu is the curd made from soy milk and is made through the processing of fresh or dried soybeans. It’s also called bean curd. It comes in various textures, and the soft silken tofu makes great smoothies and even desserts. The firmer-textured tofu is more often used in savory dishes.

Tofu is very low in cholesterol. It is also a good source of iron, magnesium, phosphorus and copper, and a very good source of protein. Some brands have added extra calcium.

Fingerprint Friday: My Little Artist

By MAD21

My oldest has become quite the artist in her six years, and her sister is not far behind (she'll be four on Monday). The girls are very creative. Over the years I have heard some amazing songs and stories created from their imaginations. And now that they are getting old enough, the pictures are becoming as detailed as their crazy stories.

God is Good

By Pat

A couple weeks ago I was asked to pray for a friend's mother-in-law who had just had a stroke and was in the hospital. After a few days, she reported that her mother-in-law was doing very well and would soon be released from the hospital. She then said "God is good!"

But what if her mother-in-law had sustained permanent damage from the stroke? What if she had died? Would my friend have said God is good if that had been the case?

YOB: #12. Paint Daisies On A Big Red Rubber Ball

By Beth

I've always loved pirates. The attitude, the danger, the clothes. One of my favorite movies/books growing up was Treasure Island (the movie had a very young Christian Bale in it, I adored him before he was cool). I watched it over and over and could probably still quote most of it. I also love raw vegetables. Given the choice between dessert and veggies, nine times out of ten I'll choose veggies. Knowing this about myself, it was no surprise that the Veggie Tales Pirates Who Don't Do Anything was such a big hit with me. I don't know that Lara shares my love of veggies, but I know she loves pirates, at least one that is.

Works For Me Wednesday: Kids and Money

By MAD21

My parents were not good at teaching me the value of money growing up. I received an allowance starting around 9 or 10, but it was usually spent before the day I received it was over. I didn't learn to save until I was well into adulthood.

Things didn't change much once I was older and had a job. I was working by age 16 and my paychecks disappeared just as fast as the allowance I received when I was younger. Even once I was living on my own, I was living paycheck-to-paycheck, not saving a penny.
